Oracle's Book Club: THE FIRST WEEK
Plans are awesome to have BUT they don't always happen the way we wish or think they should. As the first OBC meeting concluded all the participants felt this truth even more so.
Reminder: We are reading The 12 Universal Laws of Success by Herbert Harris
OBC was supposed to be a 5-week book club that featured 5 different titles. How did it turn into a 12+ week Master Mind Group solely about 1st week's book?
Well, very simply. Those who participated got the chance to be heard. When we gathered for the first time on September 15 I had no idea what to expect. I had a PLAN but I still had no idea how everything would go. Was the book interesting enough? Did everyone have enough time to read the book? How many people would actually show up to discuss it? Will my study questions provoke the type of conversation that can carry this club meeting?
Just a true mountain of stress and self doubt. Once we actually gathered on the video meet, slowly but surely these tensions started to fade and more and more the feeling of, "We have something serious to accomplish", emerged.
It didn't take long before the entire group was expressing the timeliness of the title and how they wish they read it sooner. Even though this is my second read through I'm a bit upset I didn't revisit this title sooner. My anxiety faded and what happened was nothing short of amazing. We not only filled the entire meeting with meaningful conversation but we came to some pretty serious declarations at the end of the meeting.
Declaration 1. Keep the group small. Intimacy seemed to be a key factor in this meeting. To be honest, it is a pretty darn important factor to me too! Making the first meeting is imperative to making a lasting impact with the group and in this case all it took was one meeting to realize WE are enough.
Declaration 2. OBC will stay on this title for the next week!
This book has apparently captured its audience. I must say there is much to take away from this title. It is certainly something to spend some time on however the impact of studying this material with a group can be absolutely monumental to an individual's growth.
